The Talk Story Film Festival - Inaugural Year
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Big Island Film Festival, an independent narrative film festival, held its debut on May 18-21, 2006 on the fabulous Gold Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii as result collaborative effort of Big Island Film Festival, LLC., Waikoloa Beach Marriott, Hilton Waikoloa Village and Waikoloa Land Company.
The purpose of the Big Island Film Festival is to celebrate the independent narrative film and the independent narrative filmmakers. This celebration will bring together locals, visitors, filmmakers and industry professionals in an entertainment event that will include movies, music, parties, receptions, Filmmaker and Actor Salutes, an Awards Brunch, Hawaiian culture, filmmaker symposiums and a charity golf tournament.
Parties, receptions, salutes, filmmaker symposiums and an awards brunch were held at Hilton Waikoloa Village and the Waikoloa Kings Golf Course Driving Range.
THREE MOVIE VENUES
There were three movie venues at Big Island Film Festival.
The Ohana Venue and Festival Venue were nighttime outdoor venues. The Ohana Venue featured only family (or PG-13 and under) movies. The Festival Venue showed general feature films.
The Honu Venue presented films in two-hour blocks from 9 AM until 4PM on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
PROJECT ALS
All profits from the May 17 golf tournament will go to Project ALS. ALS is also
known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. A portion of all Big Island Film Festival profits
will also go to Project ALS.

GOLDEN
HONU UP & COMER NO KA OI AWARD
Monty Lapica, who wrote, starred and directed the film Self-Medicated - a portion of which was shot on Hawaii. He was recognized at a reception, followed by film clips and a Q&A session with Monty. The Big Island Film Festival congratulates Monty Lapica - the 2006 Up-and-Comer (No Ka Oi) Golden Honu Award Recipient.
GOLDEN
HONU FILMMAKER NO KA OI AWARD
David Cunningham was recognized with a Golden Honu Award for Filmmaker
at the 2006 Big Island Film Festival. An evening reception was held, including
local entertainment, clips from David's films and current projects, and a Q&A
session with David.
